You will hear this many times from me on this blog I suspect. Pictures are my most prized possession. They are so important to me and I love them so much. So it’s only natural to protect them as best I can. Everyone who cares about their pictures should definitely back them up, because you never know what may happen. I’ve lost a ton of photos from my teenage years because of my computers dying and not knowing to have the photos backed up and it makes me really sad every time I think about it. I won’t let it happen again!
How I Backup My Photos
- I have an external hard drive. I bought it from Costco and I don’t believe it was too expensive. It’s by the brand My Book and it’s very simple to use. You plug it into the wall and then into your computer, a folder will then appear on your desktop and you can save anything you want however you’d like. I save my photos in multiple folders and my OCD definitely comes out in this.
- I also have a Dropbox account. I love Dropbox so, so much. It makes my life so much easier when saving photos off my phone and exchanging things back and fourth from my computer and phone. I use this as another way to protect my photos and keep them backed up. I pay for a yearly subscription and it costs $109.00. You can also pay $10.99 a month instead.
- I haven’t done this yet but I really want to. I’d like to get another external hard drive and put all my photos on it and keep it at my moms house. She lives 2 hours away and comes here once a month, so I’d be able to update it every time she comes with my new photos. This way, if there was ever a fire at my home and I couldn’t get to my external hard drive I’d have another just incase.
I am by no means an expert at this stuff, this is just what I do and what I’ve found works for me so far. How do you backup your photos? Is there something you think I should be doing differently? Let me know in the comments!
